Thank You, American Heroes.

Thank You, American Heroes... from English II, Fall 2009
"Dear Veteran,
No matter how many times I hear about the World Wars, Civil War, or even the world today, I've learned to appreciate and love the people who served in them and fought for our country. I want to deeply and gratefully thank you for your sacrifices and that I appreciate what all you, and your team, has done for my freedom. It's a debt that I could never repay, No matter what I could ever do or try. I may not know how hard the sacrifices you made were, and what kind of sacrifices you made were, or what hardships you had to face and encounter, but I do know and BELIEVE, seeing as we're a FREE and INDEPENDENT NATION, they were a great tribute and don't go unnoticed. I personally wouldn't fight because I don't have what it takes: guts or bravery for a king. But if I have no choice, I will proudly and gladly stand up, and do what it takes to keep my homeland safe, just as you sacrificed to do. I thank God you chose to fight and serve us. You have give the ultimate sacrifice and showed the greatest love, honor, friendship, loyalty, spirituality, courage, strength, and character. You have the right to be called a hero."

Fall BREEEEAAAAKKKKKKK!!!!!!
I know that you guys are as excited as I am about fall break. I can hardly wait to take nine days to rest and relax with my family. I hope you will all be careful and have fun on your break. Also, please use this time for a little reflection. When we return, the nine weeks ends and a new one begins. Some of you are probably happy with your grade and a lot of you probably aren't. Please come back rested and ready to focus. We have a lot more to do (a lot that I think you will really find interesting), so let's be ready to buckle down and do it!

Leadership
Politics play an important role in our country. Without discussing anything specific from our own political parties and without discussing any leader by name, please think for a few minutes and comment on the following questions that this play raises. What makes a good leader? Is it okay to sacrifice the rights of an individual for the good of many, the way that Brutus and the conspirators sacrificed Caesar for Rome? What would the perfect government look like? Brutus, one could argue, is in favor of a democratic leadership. He fears the total power Caesar wanted to assume. With that being said, is it ironic at all that Brutus chose a VERY undemocratic method of finding a solution to the problem? Are there any contemporary world events-- or any in recent history-- which parallel Brutus' taking of Caesar's life? Do such comparisons help you understand Brutus' position or the world in the play?
