Blended Poetry Based on The Cage

Holocaust Literature created blended poems by responding to several prompts from me, then highlighting passages from The Cage that spoke to them. The poems consist of one line by Ruth Minsky Sender, then one line by the student, back and forth. I wanted to post a couple of them on here.

By Ruth Minsky Sender and Brian Moran
A world of love and peace
Enjoy life to the fullest
Gives new energy
To give my best
To plan for a better, brighter tomorrow
Becoming a great parent
This day will come
A loving family
How lovely it must be
Being truthful and honest
It is good to be alive
Learning how to become a better person

By Ruth Minsky Sender and Colleen Skelly
Sweet smell of lilac in full bloom
Big oak trees swaying in the breeze
A gentle breeze coming through the open window caresses my face
Jesus sitting under the tree with His arms open, waiting for me
I speak to him of a tomorrow that is coming for all of us
The sun coming through the trees
A world of love and peace
My mother, my rock, my sisters, my strength
I must carry them in my heart, they are only memories of another life
My mother is my courage, my sisters are my strength

By Ruth Minsky Sender and Gage Reason
A gentle breeze coming through the open window caresses my face
I have the nicest lawn in the neighborhood
Such beauty; I hold my breath
and I remember the white sands of Destin.
It is good to be alive.
Inspiration to live and to rise above
How wonderful it is to be free.
I think of the palatial feasts on Thanksgiving,
No more hunger
The serenity of life,
A world of love and peace.

Wow
Great job guys
Mine made almost no sense
I love seeing everyone's work

Yes I enjoy seeing everyone's also.
Except when I see Colleen Skelly's.
Hers pretty much ripped mine in half.

I just wanted to say that I enjoyed this poem writing style much more than the others that we have done. And that is saying a lot because I hate reading poems and also writing them.

Congrats A-Davis on making what I hate.. Enjoyable.

I hope D.C. is amazing--and hopefully it's warmer than it was during spring break!

Wow, Gage, high praise indeed. Gosh, I hardly know what to say. Thank you. And I agree with Bethany and Walt as well, they are all amazing. Can't wait to see what you guys got done tomorrow!

I totally agree with Gage that this was one of the best poetry assignments we've done! I loved it! :) It really made me connect with Ruth Minsky Sender's words from her story. Brian, Colleen, and Gage: you all did a fabulous job on your poems. I love how they're so different but all of them are very personal and heartfelt. Good Stuff! It's time to sleep but I must say that I am inspired... :)

I really enjoyed the assignment! I had fun writing it.

Mrs. Davis you posted on your own blog for the first time!!!! Woooo! hahaha.

Excellent poems Gage, Colleen, and Brian. They are music to the ears and they paint a picture in your mind that produces more than 1,000 words.

God Bless,
Josh

Josh, I think I have posted a comment or two before. Maybe not. Anyway, thanks for noticing. :)
