Newsweek article

I will probably read this article aloud to you tomorrow, but I thought it was so striking when I read it, especially in light of our recent discussions on the aftermath of the Holocaust. Use this post as a forum to comment on that article.

The title is a link, by the way.

When you let me read that in class today, Mrs. Davis, I thought it was also striking and very interesting.

What hit me the most was the very last paragraph. It's like that person was "dying for the second time". I say that because people basically "died" and lost all meanings to life while in a concentration camp and then to have those thoughts come back to you 2 weeks before you die.

Like you said, Mrs. Davis...it is very powerful message. A powerful message indeed.

this was a really good article... until it got to the last paragraph. i mean, it was still good--just so intense that my mind had a hard time wrapping itself around the concept that Hitler is "still killing Jews". i've never thought about it that way... and honestly, i don't want to. that's such a negative way to see how the survivors are coping. then again, i didn't lose a family member to the Holocaust. maybe if i were in this woman's position i would feel the same bitterness and discontent she does.
