Research Paper Abstract
Presentations
You
need to compose an abstract of your paper that is about a paragraph or two in
length. This abstract will be used for your research presentations. Below is an excerpt from
Carnegie-Mellon University on the contents of an abstract.
•
Motivation:
•
Why
do we care about the
problem and the results? (Why did you pick this topic? How is it a “legitimate”
topic?)
•
Problem
statement:
•
What
problem are you trying to solve? What is the scope of your work?
(What is your researchable question?)
•
Approach:
•
How
did you go about solving
or making progress on the problem? (What did you run into through the course of
your research? Too broad? Too narrow? Hard time sorting through sources?) What was the extent of your work? (What
were your main points for and against?)
•
Results:
•
What's
the answer? (What is
your best argument for the side you chose to support?)
•
Conclusions:
•
What
are the implications
of your answer? (What is your call to action?)
